Service Information for Ron Novotny of Harlan

A celebration of life service for 72-year-old Ron Novotny of Harlan will be held 7pm, Wednesday, May 18th, at veteran’s memorial auditorium in Harlan.   Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm, Wednesday, May 18th, also at veteran’s memorial auditorium in Harlan.

Ron started his career in Iowa sports broadcasting in 1969 at KWAY in Waverly, Iowa, moving to Harlan in 1985 to become sports Director at KNOD in Harlan, and eventually becoming well-known for being “the voice of the Harlan community cyclones”., in addition to broadcasting for schools within a 40 mile radius of Harlan. He once said he had broadcasted games in every county in Iowa.

Ron retired December 31st 2021.  Ron will be remembered in western Iowa for his unique style of broadcasting, the excitement he brought to any game, and his catch phrases…” cows out of the barn”…”tickle the twine”….”Bodies on the deck”  are just a few examples.
